Principal Optical Systems Engineer

Role/Responsibility
This position reports to the Director, Systems Engineering. The successful candidate will have a key role in defining, specifying and designing Mintera’s advanced modulation format DWDM transmission products. He/she must have a demonstrated capability for self-directed work and a strong track record of confronting and solving challenging technical problems. In addition, she/he must be customer-driven, solutions-focused and have a deep understanding of optical transport equipment design and related optical component technologies, especially as they pertain to high data rate line cards and the design of DWDM transmission systems. The successful candidate must work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team environment cooperating closely with manufacturing and customer facing organizations as well as the rest of the engineering team. The successful candidate will be experienced in the full product development and new product introduction cycle and be familiar with design for manufacturability best practices.

Required Experience and Technical Skills
• Proven track record of successful DWDM transponder/line card product developments applicable to advanced modulation/demodulation formats and data rates ≥40 Gb/s
• Demonstrated ability to solve challenging technical problems
• Strong analytic and experimental skills
• In-depth knowledge of DWDM technologies, components and systems
• Experience specifying and testing optical components, sub-systems and system designs
• Strong laboratory test and measurement skills at the component level and at the product level
• Experience in DWDM transponder/line card performance test and performance evaluation
• Experience with optical transmission simulation tools such as VPI
• Knowledge of DWDM, OTN, SONET/SDH, Ethernet networking
• Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal

Minimum Education/Experience:
• M.Sc. or Ph.D. degree in relevant field.
• A minimum of 5 years relevant industry experience in the optical transmission arena. Candidates should have a successful track record of product design from concept through manufacture and deployment.
