New World Record from Mintera: 10,000 Km at 40 Gbit/sec

Post-deadline paper accepted for presentation at the Optical Fiber Communications conference this week

Lowell, Mass., March 25, 2003 - Mintera Corporation, the leader in 40G optical transport solutions, today announced that it demonstrated error-free transmission of 40 data channels each operating at a bit rate of 40 Gbit/sec over a record distance of 10,000 km of transmission fiber without electrical regeneration. The results are testimony to Mintera's strategy of advancing state of the art in 40G technology and verify that there are virtually no boundaries to coming 40G systems.

"This new world record, our third in the last twelve months, demonstrates our commitment to excellence and leadership in optical transport, over and beyond our first generation products", said Pavel Mamyshev, Vice President and Chief Scientist. "We continue to push the limits of 40G technologies and now we are able to demonstrate that 40G systems will ultimately be able to span trans-Pacific distances without
costly electrical regeneration", said Benny Mikkelsen, Mintera's Vice President of Systems and Technology.

Moving from today's 10 Gbit/sec systems to 40 Gbit/sec will bring significant capital equipment and operating cost reductions to carriers as well as much needed improvements in time-to-revenue through simplified provisioning of services. These benefits combined with the superior performance that will be achieved once routers with 40 Gbit/sec interfaces are deployed will render 40 Gbit/sec optical transport a key element in next generation networks.

"During this past year, while many equipment suppliers drastically reduced their R&D spending on advanced programs, Mintera continued to invest in building 40G based regional and long haul optical transport products that launch a new wave in network economics. We achieved impressive transmission test results, developed second-generation 40G technology for ultra long haul applications, and continued to expand the executive management team. These strategic investments position Mintera for business success as network traffic continues to grow and as carriers and enterprises resume their investments in infrastructure", said Menachem Abraham, Chairman and CEO.

The breakthrough performance was achieved with optical amplifier spacing of 100 km and by using all-Raman amplification as well as enhanced error correction encoding. Dr. Fenghai Liu from Mintera, will be presenting additional details about the technology and test results at the OFC Conference, at the Atlanta Convention Center, on Thursday March 27, 2003 at 4:00 pm.
