Mintera Achieves New World Record in Fiber Optic Transmission: 5,200 Km At 40 Gb/s; LOWELL, Mass.- Sept. 10, 2002 - Mintera Corporation, the leader in 40G transport solutions for metro-core, regional, long haul and ultra long haul applications, today announced that it demonstrated error-free transmission of 40 channels at 40 Gbit/sec over a record distance of 5,200 Km of UltraWave(TM) fiber without electrical regeneration. This breakthrough performance was achieved with typical terrestrial optical amplifier spacing of 100Km, channel spacing of 100GHz, and by using all-Raman amplification. Moving from today's 10Gb/s systems to 40Gb/s brings significant capital equipment and operating cost reductions to the carriers as well as much needed improvements in time-to-revenue through simplified provisioning of services. These benefits combined with the performance improvements that will be achieved once routers with 40 Gb/s interfaces are deployed will make 40 Gb/s optical transport a key element of next generation networks. "Mintera's record breaking results represent a new proof point that 40 Gb/s ultra long haul optical transport is being commercialized and demonstrates our continued commitment to advancing the state of the art while delivering on our vision of a new wave in network economics" said Menachem Abraham, President and CEO of Mintera. The multi-service transmitter and receiver in Mintera's system employ electronic time division multiplexing for interfacing to the lower speed client signals (e.g. multiple 10 Gb/s bit streams from Ethernet switches, routers, SONET add-drop multiplexers, optical switches), Enhanced Forward Error Correction (EFEC) technology, and Mintera's (patent pending) Chirped Carrier Suppressed Return-to-Zero (CCS-RZ) modulation on the ultra long haul optical link. Dr. Christian Rasmussen from Mintera, will be presenting additional details about the technology and test results at the ECOC conference, paper number PD4.4, at the Bella Center in Copenhagen, Denmark, on Thursday September 12, 2002 at About Mintera Printer friendly version |
